Research at University of Eswatini (UNESWA) plays a significant role in advancing fundamental understanding of a sustainable world, generating creative innovations that lead to processes and products with positive benefit, creating opportunities for socioeconomic growth in the Kingdom of Eswatini, and nurturing the trajectory of young people through education and training.
UNESWA Research Centre (URC) organises, facilitates and provides strategic direction to maximize the ability of faculty and students to create new knowledge, translate their discoveries, and engage in exceptional responsible research careers. URC is committed to facilitating the research and scholarship successes of our faculty and students by providing support to develop research capacity, marketing research capabilities, creating effective interface between researchers and funding opportunities, and, forging institutional relationships with external stakeholders. Prof. H.R. Mloza-Banda

Prof. H.R. Mloza-Banda

Director

Professor H.R. Mloza Banda (LEAD Fellow), has over 20 years of practical experience in a tertiary environment with demonstrable developments and innovation in teaching, research and community engagements underlain by major focus on crop and weed ecology, agricultural water management and climate-smart cropping systems. He trained in leadership, environment and development through the LEAD Programme from which he acquired added skills in agricultural, social, economic and environmental impact assessments and policy development. He has deep knowledge about higher education landscape having led academic units as Chair of Department, Faculty Dean, and Director of Postgraduate Programmes and Director of Research and extensive involvement with higher education networks. He has a track record of securing regional and international grants and implementing action research including through postgraduate research support programmes that have benefited many young professionals. He has provided consultancy and tenure services for government, International Research Centres, Universities, NGOs and farmer organizations yielding national and international public goods. He has demonstrable skills in synthesis and development of information and communication materials and presentations at national, regional and international forums.

Dr. S.S.B. Mlipha (PhD)

Research Fellow

Skhumbuzo is an Agricultural Economist who lecturers part time for the University of Eswatini. He obtained his Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Pretoria and did his PhD course work at the Charles Dyson School of Applied Economics at Cornell University. He is also an alumnus of the University of the Free State where he obtained a Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics and the University of Eswatini where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics. He has served in many committees within the University and outside in his 13 years as a professional. He has served as a consultant in market research, insurance and trade. His research interests are in modelling trade risk, regional economic integration, and supply response. At the centre, he is responsible for coordinating institutional research and he serves as the Associate Editor for the UNESWA Research Journals (UREJ and UREJAST). He has served as a reviewer for local and international journals. His hobbies include travelling, soccer and reading.

Ms. Ntfombi Kunene

Secretary

Ntfombi holds a Master of Education in Adult Education from the University of Eswatini, a Diploma in Human Resources from Alison College, a Diploma in Secretarial Studies from Eswatini College of Technology and a Certificate in Online Teaching for Educators from the University of Eswatini.  She is a Part-time Lecturer in the Institute of Distance Education at the University of Eswatini in the Bachelor of Education (Adult Education) programme where she is responsible for seven courses per academic year.  She is also an e-Tutor for the Certificate in Online Teaching for Educators, the first online course to be offered by the Institute of Distance Education at UNESWA.  Her responsibilities include coordinating the operations of the Centre through correspondence with stakeholders.  She is also the Administrator for the UNESWA Research Journals.  Her hobbies include reading, sight-seeing and gardening
